The Story Continues

I have been procrastinating my blogging. Feeling that time and energy is limited, my priority is getting to my art studio and working on more illustrations. I am excited about this huge endeavor to make a story come alive using only art. It has been done before, but not by me.

The fairytale that I am using for inspiration is a complex and long, so this project is going to take some time. This morning, I woke up feeling a little tired and perhaps needing a "fall break" like they have in college or school. It isn't a bad idea to step back and breath and relax and do something else for a few days. Then I can go back refreshed.

I am still working on the illustrations in my head; I am a few pictures ahead of where I am at in reality. I have a folder on Pinterest with inspiration helps, drawing from my own reservoirs is something that is difficult for me. So, if my characters look familiar it might be because I am drawing from real people and places.

I am working with large paper, 18x24 inches and using Prismacolor pencils. Sometimes the first try is thrown away, and it goes to a 2nd or 3rd try. At the end of the week, I am tired and the picture is not perfect, it doesn't have to be, and I have to talk myself around to this fact. It is art, it is made by hand, created by someone who isn't perfect, the flaws are what makes it unique. I am also told that making something too obvious spoils the viewer's fun of exploring and connecting to the art. These are reason that bring me comfort and allow me to continue on.

This is a journey and a challenge, and with all challenges it is work and a way to get better at what I love to do.
Thank you for stopping, hoping to see you soon.

Leah, these are absolutely beautiful. I'm completely smitten.
